Returns, undated and 1790-1800, of men and arms belonging to the 47th Regiment in the county of Albemarle, Va. August 12, 1797, General Orders from James Wood directing "that a detachment consisting of eleven thousand one hundred and fifty Militia including officers be immediately organized, armed, equipped and held in the most perfect readiness to march at a moments warning -- Major General Hopkins will command the detachment." May 1, 1798 and June 18, 1800, letters from James Monroe to Colonel Wilson C. Nicholas, requesting that Nicholas take into possession a stand of arms delivered to Nicholas's regiment (1798) and that Nicholas forward the "publick arms" to the Point of Fork arsenal (1800). May 16 and June 6, 1801, receipts of guns and arms of Colonel Wilson C. Nicholas. Undated documents including returns of the 47th Regiment; brigade orders by John Guerrant ("B.G. 3d. B. VM.") noting that "the present circumstances of the Country is Incompetent to a general distribution of arms amongst the Militia" and recommending that in the meantime the militia "endeavour to acquire a proper knowledge of discipline;" a blank receipt of a replacement; and a military communication on the subject of a court martial. 1814 receipt roll of a company of infantry under command of Captain Joseph W. Ross in the 1st Regiment of Ohio Militia. Register of warrants issued under the act entitled "An Act for the relief of certain Surviving Officers and Soldiers of the Revolution" approved May 15, 1828. January 11, 1815, "Morning Report of the Forces stationed at Norfolk and it's vicinity commanded by Col Freeman," describing among other units Corps and State Artillery, 20th, 35th, 38th Regiments (Regulars), 5th, 7th, 11th Regiments (Virginia Militia), and 1st-2nd Regiments (North Carolina Militia). July 30, September 4 and 17 1817 letters from Leroy Opie, Battalion Paymaster, to Robert or William Ruffin concerning allotment of rations for officers.
